Big Brother 8 Premiere : Dan's View |
Hello More Big Brotherites :) It's Dan, here, the other writer around these parts, ready to lead you through the ups and downs of the premiere episode of Big Brother 8 which aired tonight.
I'm going to give you my thoughts on how the twists seem to be working and also my thoughts on the House Guests so far. As I will always say in my articles, I'd love to hear feedback from you whether you agree or disagree with me! I'm here for you, fellow Big Brother fans so it's not just my opinion that matters (how many critics tell you that!?)

First, the twists. From what I have seen so far, the twists for Big Brother 8 are a combination of the two twists from Big Brother 4 (the season of the exes), and Big Brother 5 (the season of the twin twist). Looking at the twists from a critical eye, you can easily see that the "worst enemy" twist is a very similar twist to the exes in Big Brother 4. Does everyone remember what happened in that season? All of the exes made secret alliances with each other - most notably Jun and Jee - with Jun ultimately winning (and selling Jee out when she no longer needed him, I think this will happen with the "enemies" also).
I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Joe and Dustin who are so vocal about their hatred of each other (so were Jun for Jee) will form a super-secret alliance and pretend to keep hating each other to avoid being put up together. There were already hints of this happening with father/daughter Dick and Daniele in the previews at the end of tonight's episode so I do believe this is what will occur down the road :)
The America's Player twist is a variation of the Twin Twist, remembering that in Big Brother 5, America knew all along that Adria and Natalie were twins, then later in the season it was revealed to the House Guests. I really feel for Eric being America's (pawn) Player because he is going to make real friendships in that house and America is going to start asking him to betray those friends. It was my understanding from tonight's episode, however, that Eric can choose whether to complete America's tasks or not (the one shining spot in this twist for me) but for every 5 tasks he completes, he earns $10,000 (nice motivation).
Here is my take on the House Guests based on my first impressions from tonight's episode:
CAROL: Seems like a nice enough girl. One of the people whose 'enemy' from 7th grade, Jessica was brought in (they will align quickly I think). Many of the people in the More Big Brother chat tonight pegged Carol as the "sleeper" House Guest who will fly under the radar for most of the season. Time will tell :) I liked her, but she didn't leave a lasting impression on me tonight.
DUSTIN: Joe's ex and the first person I noticed when looking at the bios when they were first released. A little different than I thought he'd be (like the low cut gray shirt, c'mon now Dustin, you know better LOL) but I do still like him. Dustin had the misfortune of his first impression being made for him when before he was allowed to come downstairs his ex Joe said that Dustin had had gonorrhea (Dustin excalimed "that test came back negative a**hole!" LOL) but he seems to have the personality to quickly align with many House Guests and combat that impression.
JAMEKA: You know other than her scream at the beginning of the episode "I GOT INTO THE HOUSEEEE!" Jameka did not make much of an impression on me tonight. This doesn't mean anything, she just wasn't one of the House Guests they focused on as much. She seems amiable enough and I think I might like her :)
JEN: I don't really remember much about Jen from tonight's episode. Once again, another House Guest that wasn't featured as much. If I recall correctly, she was kind of quiet. I will keep an eye on her on the 24/7 Live Feeds and when I know more of her, I will give you my take on her.
ERIC: America's Player. I really like him so far! He has an awesome personality and seems to be quite the character. I think he's going to make a lot of friends fast in the house. I think this will ultimately cause him quite the moral dillemma as the game goes on and America asks him to screw over people in the house he considers his friends. I really feel for him if he makes an alliance and America doesn't like it. Good Luck Eric, I like you in the game, but you may have been screwed over by the twist :(
AMBER: Nice girl, kind of cheerleaderish :) I recall her name being called out a lot in the episode but other than being really sweet and nice to everyone, I didn't get much of a take on her. Another House Guest that I will keep my eye on!
DICK: Walked into the house and proclaimed he is "Evil Dick"; immediately told everyone he is Daniele's father and that they haven't spoken for 'two years.' (Daniele says five years so who's telling the truth? Time will tell!) Dick was a stunt double for Johnny Depp in the Pirates movies so one wonders what kind of lifestyle he leads. In th Live Chat tonight feelings were split down the middle on Dick. Half liked him and half didn't. I haven't made up my mind yet as he might be putting on an act. There are rumors that Dick and Daniele schemed their way into the house and actually are very close. Hmmmmm who knows, but I know if that is true, it will come out before the season is over!
DANIELE: Dick's daughter. Very quiet girl. Youngest in the house though didn't let anyone know that. In the previews, it looked like father and daughter will be making a secret alliance. Personally, if she lasts in the game it will be because Dick will protect her. She doesn't seem nearly as personable as her father so far.
MIKE: I didn't notice much of Mike in the premiere episode. Maybe Little Brother will have a bit more to say about Mike in his review. Mike is good looking and has a nice smile, I did notice that :) I think he will become a part of an alliance very quickly but with who? Who do you think he should align with? E-mail me your thoughts!
JOE: What can I say about Joe? Hmmm Carol called him "over the top," the understatement of the decade! Joe saying the gonorrhea thing about Dustin when he had a "feeling" that Dustin was coming down the stairs was uncalled for and rude. You know, even if it is true, that doesn't need to be put out there for public consumption before anyone even gets to meet Dustin... and I don't care how much Joe hates him! A lot of people don't think Joe will last long in the game, but I wouldn't sell him short. If he and Dustin form a secret alliance, they will be there for a while.
JESSICA: I have been hearing rumblings of people comparing Jessica to Janelle. Bite your tongues on that comparison! Janie is a much better player and strategist than I think Jessica will be. Jessica seemed to me to be your typical popular bitchy cheerleader from high school who still acts like she's in high school. The comments she was making about Carol were beyond bitchy and turned me off to her immediately. I personally hope she doesn't last long in the game, but who knows what will happen :)
NICK: Nick Nick Nick, my favorite so far in the game. As cocky as they come, made the statement "I'm going to use this body to get me as far in the game as I can" in his bio interview at the beginning of the episode. However, cocky guys do go far in this game. Anyone remember Jase? Howie??? For some reason I can see Nick and Carol hooking up at some point. I will throw that prediction out there now, we'll see what happens :) GO NICK! (Oh and his bio picture does him NO justice, he's much better looking on the show)
KAIL: Our first HoH! A nice enough lady but she made a comment that made me cringe a bit in tonight's episode: "If any of my children made the choice to be homosexual, I would be devastated." Now given that she had just been exposed to Joe, I can see where the question the producers asked her generated this answer. However, I cannot believe that people still believe homosexuality is a choice. This may make me some enemies here (I had a bit of an altercation talking about it in the Live Chat) , however, it is just how I feel. Remember, it's not just my opinion that counts! I hope that Kail is able to change and overcome this feeling. Karen in Big Brother 1 made a similar statement at the beginning of that season and I loved her by the end of the season so I'm sure my feelings for Kail will change as she reminds me a lot of Karen in a lot of ways :)
ZACH: BIG SMILE :-D He has the biggest smile of all of the House Guests. Seems like an amiable guy. I can see Zach and Daniele as a couple :) I will go ahead and make that prediction as well. I like Zach, I hope he goes far in the game.
Well there you have it! My review of the first episode, mostly the first episode was a get to know the House Guests and their "enemies" episode along with an Alice In Wonderland themed HoH competition (Something tells me we will all be sick of Alice in Wonderland by the end of the season - LOL!) won by Kail.
