DAN'S Perspective : A History of Big Brother Twists

Hey everyone,

This was supposed to be Dan's first article for the site, but we didn't get it up on the front page on time.  I think  it's awesome, and it would be a waste if we didn't post it... everyone weigh in with your thoughts as well (I intend to!!).

=====

Hello MoreBigBrother.com members and guests, I am Dan.  Along with LittleBrother, I will be updating you on the happenings of the 24 hour live feeds as well as the show's broadcast of this season's Big Brother 8!  I look forward to hearing from YOU about your favorites and the stories and houseguests you want to hear more about!  We all have our favorites and I will do my best to update you not only on my favorite House Guests but yours as well!  Feel free to email me at dan@morebigbrother.com    You can also add me on myspace and talk to me there as well!  The link to my myspace page is in my profile as well as if you click on the "WWW" under the picture of James (my all time favorite House Guest!) in my forum posts.  I look forward to having lots of great conversations with you this season!

I thought for my very first article I would focus on a history of the twists and how well some of them have worked and how other times they have bombed.  I hope you all enjoy a look back at the twists and turns of the 7 previous seasons of Big Brother.

First was season 1, the one and only season where America was allowed to vote for evictions and the winner.  It is my understanding that Big Brothers in other countries such as Australia still allow the audience to vote for the evictions and winner.  I, however, am glad that the game changed because America has a tendency to vote out the troublemakers making for a very boring show.  Also, in Season 1 was the HUGE scandal of Brittany being voted out instead of George due to George's family and friends blowing up the phone lines to keep him in.
WINNER OF SEASON 1:  Eddie
DAN'S SEASON 1 FAVORITE HOUSEGUEST:  Josh Souza, who is now a HUGE producer along with Rob Cesternino of Survivor fame (another favorite of mine by the way Smiley )

In Season 2, the big twist was the introduction of the game we now know and love.  No longer was America allowed to vote for evictions or the winner and the game changed to what was then called "Survivor in a house" (which I do not think it is by the way!).  Season 2 also introduced "America's Choice" giving fans the opportunity to make some of the decisions regarding how the HG's would be living.  Missing from season 2 was the golden power of veto which would debut in Season 3 (there was a veto in season 2 but not the golden veto we know today).  One of the best things about Season 2 was the troublemakers and devious House Guests made it through the show.  The most prolific of which, Dr. Will Kirby, became the first winner of the game as we know it today.
WINNER OF SEASON 2:  Dr. Will Kirby
DAN'S SEASON 2 FAVORITE:  Will!  I loved Will in Season 2 but not so much in last year's All Star season which will be discussed later Smiley

Season 3 brought us such personalities as Marcellas, Danielle and Jason.  It also brought us the golden power of veto and the infamous moment where Marcellas did not use it to save himself and ultimately sealed his fate in the game.  The Golden Power of Veto was one of the best twists in the game and in future seasons has generated some of the best veto meetings and use of the veto ever (anyone remember Allison and Nathan in season 4!)  Season 3 ranks as many fans' favorite season and it is right up there as one of mine as well (though season 6 is my all time favorite season so far!)
WINNER OF SEASON 3:  Lisa
DAN'S SEASON 3 FAVORITES:  Danielle and Jason!

In Season 4, we had the twist of the exes.  Many see this as the worst twist in Big Brother history.  I agree and disagree with people on this issue.  I do not think that it went the way the producers intended it to (more on that for this season in a bit!) but I do believe season 4 was one of the more entertaining seasons of BB. Season 4 brought us such personalities as Allison, Jun, Robert, Justin and Nathan.  It also brought us the most devious pair of finalists in Allison and Jun with Jun ultimately being crowned the winner of the season of the exes!
WINNER OF SEASON 4:  Jun
DAN'S SEASON 4 FAVORITES:  Allison, Nathan, Robert and Justin

Season 5 ranks as one of my favorite seasons with the worst twist.  Season 5 had the infamous "Twin Twist" which backfired horribly.  This twist did not go anywhere near where the producers wanted it to go.  By the time it was revealed, half of the House Guests had almost figured it out and adjusted their strategies likewise (except for Jase unfortunately Sad  ).  This twist ranks as the worst in BB history in my opinion.  Season 5 brought us the four horsemen (Jase, Cowboy, Scott and Drew).  It also gave us the infamous Holly and Jase & the Drew/Diane romance which fizzled after the show.
WINNER OF SEASON 5:  Drew
DAN'S SEASON 5 FAVORITES:  Drew and Jase

Season 6 was my favorite Big Brother season!  The twist for season 6 was that everyone in the house was a secret pair who pretended at first not to know the person they were paired with.  Once the secret pairs were revealed (it didn't take long for them all to figure it out Smiley ), season 6 became a house divided.  On one side we had the "Friendship" alliance and on the other side "The Sovereign Six."  Most fans rooted for the Sovereigns; however, the Friendship alliance ultimately made it to the end. Season 6 brought us such fan favorites as James, Kaysar, Janelle and Howie. The best season of Big Brother USA hands down and the first time in the history of the game in America where it was truly a house divided down the middle.
WINNER OF SEASON 6:  Maggie (in my opinion the least deserving BB winner in its history)
DAN'S SEASON 6 FAVORITES:  James, Sarah, Kaysar, Howie and Janelle (loved Janelle in season 6, wasn't a fan of her gameplay in All Stars but still love her as a person Smiley )

Last season, season 7, we had the All Stars.  America chose some of the All Stars and the producers chose the others.  All Stars had its ups and downs and was a decent season.  Many critics thought there were too many season 6 stars in the house and that they were running the show.  I disagree, however, because ultimately it was not a season 6er who won the game.  Dr. Will returned along with his season 2 pal Boogie and I believe they were ultimately the ones who controlled the game in season 7 all season long.  The big twist in season 7 was the Coup d'etat, a crazy twist giving a House Guest the ability to take themselves off the block for one eviction vote.  It was ultimately never used.  I, for one, hope it does not return.
WINNER OF SEASON 7:  Mike "Boogie"
DAN'S ALL STARS FAVORITES:  James and Kaysar
