Dan's Best and Worst of Big Brother 8: The Season in Review! |

It’s hard to believe, but we have reached the end of the Summer and the end of another (and possibly the most!) explosive season of Big Brother. I have had a blast giving you your updates and recaps this season and cannot wait until next year to do it all over again : ) I thought it would be fitting to end the season with a Best and Worst article sure to elicit some laughs (and probably some disagreements as well!)
In my final article this year, I have a lot for you! First, I have Dan’s 10 best and 10 worst moments of Big Brother 8. Next, we’ll take a hilarious look back at my first impressions of each of the fourteen House Guests and whether or not they have changed with The House Guests: Then and Now. Finally, I have a supercharged, power packed final edition of House Calls Gossip where you will hear from Dick, Daniele, Zach and Eric about their thoughts and strategies and reactions after coming out of the house.
(Just as a warning, just like most of America, we here at MBB were split between being Jess/Eric (Jeric) fans and being Donato fans. I was a huge Jeric fan while Under Cover Brother was our resident Donato fan – see her finale article : ) While I do respect Dick’s win, Donato fans should be forewarned that I am critical of some of their game play in this article! Out of the two, I was happy to see Dick win, but I would have been ecstatic to have seen Jess or Eric win!)
I hope you enjoy my take on what was Big Brother 8!
Dan’s 10 Best Big Brother 8 Moments

I thought we’d do this like a David Letterman Top Ten List and go from ten to one:
Number 10: Jessica as HOH. I really felt Jessica was the most tolerant and thoughtful of all the HGs who won HOH this season (followed closely by Kail!) and I felt that her moments as HOH gave us some of the best moments of the show and also ultimately helped push her relationship with Eric to the next level with all the intimate moments they were able to spend together.
Number 9: Zach’s streaking. Like it or not, Zach’s streaking was a hilarious moment and took a lot of guts to do. It was also one of the biggest payoffs Showtime ever had for the whole season of Big Brother After Darks! The HGs even timed Zach’s streak to occur in the final 5 minutes of the Showtime show!
Number 8: Eric mimicking Evil Dick. I really believe this was one of Eric’s roughest tasks and he definitely earned his money on this one. Only Eric with his wry sense of humor was able to pull it off beautifully and hilariously without anyone catching on! (Dick thought it was a bet he’d made with someone in the Diary Room LOL).
Number 7: Jen’s “I will now perform eating!” I absolutely LOVED this moment of Big Brother. I also loved how Jen had finally had enough of Dick’s tirades and destroyed his cigs. Even though BB ultimately replaced them, it made a point. And contrary to what many have said, if I were Jen and knew I would 100% being leaving the house in 3 days anyway, damned right I would have went off slop too and ate to my heart’s content!
Number 6: Dustin pre HOH. Before Dustin won HOH, he was one of my favorites to win the whole season. The personality that Dustin showed and the way he interacted with the HGs was awesome. He was well on his way to winning over future jury members and ultimately winning the game. Now Dustin post HOH is a whole other story, he became arrogant and overconfident and those actions ultimately showed him the door.
Number 5: Daniele’s boyfriend Kris being interviewed on the show as the Nick/Daniele showmance takes hold. I thought this was one of the most appropriate and interesting ‘filler’ moments (as Little Brother has called them LOL) of all of the Thursday episodes. Everyone was wondering who Kris was and how he felt about all of this and I hear rumors that later on, Kris sold everything of Dani’s he had in his house and wants nothing more to do with her (nothing like being cheated on in front of 10 million people to help to end a relationship!)
Number 4: Dustin and Joe in the hammock. When Dustin unequivocally told Joe “you will not have my vote” over and over again, it was one of the best moments of the entire season! This conversation lasted about an hour on the feeds (and was edited to a minute on the show!) and in it, Joe continued to bury himself further and further both in the game and with Dustin. It was a classic Big Brother moment and one of those ‘wow the feeds are really paying off’ moments of the show!
Number 3: Jameka vs. Dick. Of all the HGs that Dick went up against in his tirades, I felt like Jameka held her own the best. The clapping hands in front of Dick’s face and the head movements and “you’ve got me started now, it’s on!” were classic! The ultimate culmination of which happened in the kitchen (another moment the feeds REALLY paid off) when they really went off on one another and Jameka used “your mother and your daughter” referring to how they are both Christians when Dick attacked her Christianity. While I didn’t believe Jameka was deserving of final 4, I did find a newfound respect for her when she went up against Dick!
Number 2: Jessica and Eric : ) From the beginnings of their relationship in week 2 when they started their walking dates (and I told you even then “watch out for these two, they will be powerhouses in the game!”) to their first kiss and intimate moments together, this will go down as my all time favorite ‘showmance’ of any reality show ever! I actually genuinely care about how their relationship goes after the show and Eric’s powerful goodbye message to Jess was one of the most emotional I’ve ever seen on Big Brother! I really hope we hear wedding bells with these two in the future (and gauging from how Eric spoke with Jess’ mom on House Calls, I don’t think I’m too far off on that!)

Number 1: Eric as America’s Player. I don’t think anyone else cast could have pulled this off as wonderfully as Eric. Every task he was given (save for two), he attacked with full heart and vigor. He truly was playing for us even when at times we weren’t exactly on his side and he truly earned his $40,000! Good luck to Eric, I think we’ll be seeing him again (he’ll be a great co-host on House Calls I think!)
Runners Up (Those moments that almost made the list!): Jess and Eric vs. Zach and Daniele in beer pong (really helped them pass the time and kept some of my updates more interesting to write!), Dick at Night (Dick REALLY helped make some slow nights where articles would have been difficult to write fun and interesting. He was never at a loss for words when outside smoking and spitting LOL), Eric wearing Jess’ clothes, Zach wearing Jen’s unitard, and the HGs wearing the bunny suits for a week : )
Dan’s 10 Worst Big Brother 8 Moments

And now for the other side of the coin : )
Number 10: Daniele and Amber on The Power of 10. In this obvious attempt by CBS at cross promotion, we saw Dani and Amber being allowed to leave the house and the game with the chance to win 10 million dollars on CBS’ newest game show. I was skeptical of this from the beginning and when I actually saw the show, the payoff was exactly what I expected, contrived and nothing really came of it.
Number 9: Daniele’s whining! Daniele was NEVER happy in the Big Brother house save for when she was Zach’s partner in Beer Pong (which was a runner up for my 10 best moments by the way : )). She was unhappy when she lost competitions and she found things to whine about when she won competitions! She even whined about being in the final 2! This is a girl who has a lot of growing up to do!
Number 8: Amber’s crying and emotional outbursts. This is a woman who needs tremendous therapy! All of the crying was so uncalled for and the outburst at Eric was so over the top, it was almost laughable. Also all the “I’ve never lied in this house” comments were unbelievable that Amber actually believed herself! Get some help Amber, seriously!
Number 7: America Turns on America’s Player. When America retaliated against Eric for something they felt the producers had done to keep him in the game (we’ll be talking about that soon!), it was sad to watch. All that Eric had done was work for us and it was sad that even when ‘we’ were against him, he still performed these tasks which ultimately caused him many problems and uncomfortable situations in the house.
Number 6: Carol. Carol was so obviously tracked down by Big Brother to be on the show simply because of her ‘rivalry’ with Jessica. Carol was nowhere near ready to be on a reality show and never could get used to the cameras following her (the first two weeks of watching the feeds were so irritating because Carol repeated this over and over again!). This made the entire first two weeks easy to predict and, if not for Carol wanting to go so much in the first eviction, we probably would have watched Amber walk out the door first and not have had to deal with her the rest of the season!

Number 5: Joe’s Gonorrhea Comment. One of the absolute worst moments in Big Brother history. Even if true (which I doubt!), no way was it Joe’s place to announce that to everyone about Dustin before he even walked down the stairs. I said it then and I’ll say it now: It was that comment that insured Joe’s exit from the game very quickly (he went right after Carol).

Number 4: HG’s Throwing Competitions. It is sad that this has become commonplace on Big Brother now. Zach, Dick, Eric and Daniele have all admitted to throwing comps in the first 5 weeks of the game. Noone wants the target on their backs of being HOH and, thus, throws early competitions in order to last longer in the game. I guess this is understandable but it’s just never been one of my favorite parts of the game, especially when it’s obvious and everyone, including the other HGs, know it and discuss it later.
Number 3: Possible Producer Manipulation. There are many incidents this season where it appears the producers might have manipulated the game. The worst of which was when Eric was sure to go when he was nominated and after many DR sessions, suddenly the HGs changed their tune. While I understand that CBS wanted Eric there to the end of the game as America’s Player, manipulating the game is a dangerous precedent to set! It causes some fans to become disenfranchised with the show and tune out. BB thinks the audience will “move on and forget” these moments a few weeks later but I can guarantee them, we do not!
Number 2: The Dick/Jen tea incident. For one, I watched that unfold on the feeds and at the time, it was so shocking and I expected Dick to be called to the DR immediately and reprimanded. Dumping tea over someone’s head, while humorous, is a physical act that should be addressed and I believe that had ANY other of the HGs done this (such as Jen destroying Dick’s cigs), they would have immediately been reprimanded. The double standard was beyond obvious. Also, the amount of times this scene was replayed over and over and over (I saw it AGAIN today on House Calls!) made it even more sickening to watch and see how nothing was done to address this act.
Number 1: Dick’s volatile tirades. I am in the half of America that thought that Dick’s tirades were disgusting and vile. The things he said to the HGs that he called “strategy” (but also said “are true” on today’s House Calls) were beyond anything I’ve ever seen on television. I wasn’t a big fan of when Howie did this with April in season 6 but heck, after Dick, Howie’s attacks were nothing! The things that Dick said against women and homosexuals were disgusting and beyond reproach. I was a Dick fan all the way up until that week! I still loved his “Dick at Night’s” but I was never able to quite enjoy Dick the rest of the season or celebrate his win because all I could think of were the things he said that got him to that point.
Runners Up: Amber and Jameka’s Anti Semitic conversation regarding Eric, All of the HG nudity this season that was unwanted (like Amber!?), Mike’s strange behavior at the POV that got him evicted (I really struggled not to include that one in the list!), Nick going after Daniele and Daniele letting him when she told him and both knew she had a boyfriend, still kind of icky to me regardless of what her relationship with Kris was outside of the house.
The House Guests: Then and Now

I thought it would be funny to take a look back at my very first article I wrote following the first episode of BB8 when I gave you my take on the HGs based on first impressions. This should give you some laughs, it sure did me! (In parenthesis, I’ll update you on what I think now vs. then!)
CAROL: Seems like a nice enough girl. Her enemy from 7th grade, Jessica, was brought in. I think they will align quickly. (Boy was I wrong there LOL…Carol was NOT ready for the BB cameras at all and thus, was the first out the door.)
DUSTIN: He has the personality to quickly align with many HGs and go far in this game. (Dustin really let me down! Had he stayed true to who he was before winning HOH, he would have went further in the game. He let HOH go to his head and ultimately his newfound cocky-ness, not shown in the first episode, sent him packing!)
JAMEKA: Seems amiable enough and I think I might like her. (Eh, Jameka never did make much of an impression on me. It became painfully obvious after the first 3 weeks that Jameka was cast because of her strong religious beliefs – not that there’s anything wrong with them, but that’s why she was cast. They knew she and Dick would eventually butt heads and they did.)
JEN: She seems very quiet so far. (Well, keep in mind that was after the first episode HAHA, boy was I wrong there!)
ERIC: I really like him! He’s quite the character and should make many friends in the house. Good luck Eric, but you may have been screwed over by the America’s Player twist : ( (I think enough said there…)
AMBER: Nice girl, kind of cheerleaderish : ) (HAHAHA now that I’ve picked myself up off the floor. Well she didn’t cry in the first episode HAHAHA)
DICK: Walked into the house and proclaimed himself as “Evil Dick.” In the Live Chat, half loved him, half hated him (that never changed!). There are rumors that Dick and Daniele schemed their way into the house but I’m sure if that is true, it will come out before the season is over! (Actually, that’s STILL up in the air!)
DANIELE: Dick’s daughter, doesn’t seem nearly as personable as her father. If she lasts in this game, it will be because Dick protected her. (I was right on that in some ways, however, I never would have guessed Dani would win as many comps as she did!)
MIKE: He will align with someone very quickly, but who? (Unfortunately, it was Kail. I pegged Mike to win BB8 and I’ve been right in 5 out of 8 seasons! I think had he not been so super to the point of stupid loyal to Kail, he would have went MUCH further in the game!)
JOE: Will not last long in the game unless he forms a secret alliance with Dustin. (Well, they did at first, but once Dustin was through with that, out the door Joe went!)
JESSICA: Your typical, bitchy high school cheerleader who thinks she’s still in high school. I personally hope she doesn’t go far in the game! (What was I thinking!? Jessica was one of the smartest in the house and my opinion of her quickly changed! She was one of my favorites and I ultimately would have been happy had she won : ) )
NICK: Was my favorite after the first episode (but was replaced by Eric after a few weeks.) I could see him hooking up with Carol (sure was wrong there! LOL but I never saw Daniele as being his type.)
KAIL: Made a negative impression on me after her comment on homosexuals in the first episode. However, I hoped she would change her view (and I think she has, she even said Dustin helped to change her view when she did her interview on House Calls. Other than that comment, I really liked Kail!)
ZACH: Very amiable guy. I can see him and Daniele as a couple (what was I thinking? LOL) I like him, I hope he goes far in the game. (And he did and I still do : ) )
So there you have it! I hope you enjoyed that trip down memory lane as much as I did : )
The Final House Calls Gossip!

Here are the updates from the final two House Calls episodes of BB8! I was VERY disappointed that they did not do a town hall this year as they have every other year and it seems there is a conspiracy to keep us from hearing anything from Amber! Rather than a town hall with the full jury and the winners, we get two separate episodes, the first with the runner up Daniele and winner Dick interviewed separately by Gretchen. The second episode and finale of HC had Zach and Eric as the guests, which means we never got to hear from Amber, Jameka or Jessica! With all of that said, here are your final two House Calls updates of the year : )
Wednesday, September 19th: First, we hear from Daniele who tells us she is going back to school to be a second grade teacher (!) and that she knew all along that Dick would win out of the two of them and was just “joking” about being miffed at Dick for what he said at the jury’s questioning. (Sure Dani, that’s why you pouted and didn’t talk to Dick for almost a whole day after, sureeee it was just a joke LOL) Dani continues to bash Eric, Amber, Jameka and Zach (though in a more ‘nice’ way than on the feeds, she’s still bashing them…please grow up Daniele before you become a mentor to children!) Dani explains Dick and her ‘candy bar’ strategy where all the HGs were candy bars that they switched out and they had it all planned “from the beginning” (oh really? I thought you were ‘estranged’ and didn’t know you’d both be in the house, I totally no longer believe that story anymore!)
Next up we have the winner, Dick, who tells Gretchen to feel free to call him Evil Dick LOL; Dick is still shocked that America loved him and he’s still trying to figure out the whole America’s Player twist. Gretchen explains to Dick that America is actually split down the middle on him (that’s for sure!) Dick says he knew Daniele would be there but continues the ‘they were estranged the first two weeks’ story. Dick discusses his farting and spitting. Dick says when they were safe, he and Dani had their toughest weeks getting along but when one of them needed to win, they banded together. Dick says Zach was the “Drew” of BB8 saying he just squeaked by and there were bigger fish to fry (nice Dick, Drew was my all time favorite BB winner.) In Dick’s Time Capsule, he says he hopes he stayed focused and that he is on his way on a trip around the world. Dick still feels women peak at 25 and it’s all downhill after that “but there’s always exceptions to every rule” (wow, Dick, that sounded just as bad the second time as it did the first.) Dick thinks Janelle is much better looking than Jessica. He then says he doesn’t think he’ll open his own bar because of the headaches, but he says he’s going to Ireland after all the hoopla dies down. Dick says his going off on individual HGs was all strategy and planned out well in advance, however, of course emotion played into it. Oh he also says “most of the things I said were true” (nice, considering some of the things he said about homosexuals, real nice Dick!) Dick compares Jen to an escaped mental patient (I’m going to leave that one alone LOL) We get to see the Dick/Jen tea incident for like the 1000th time (but it’s Dick’s first time seeing it LOL) Dick basically goes on a Jen tirade and when Gretchen tries to steer him away from the subject Dick says “no, let’s stay with this” (when Gretchen says ‘right,’ you can tell that she is annoyed that Dick is trying to take over the show…I don’t blame her! He even jokes to Gretchen “are you on drugs!?” when she asks if he had a crush on Jen.) We get more clips of Dick vs. Jen. Caller: “Hey Dick, how are you?” Dick: “I just won half a million dollars, how the hell are you?” Gretchen says Dick would be a good co-host. Dick says he had a vasectomy (but I think he was joking when a caller talked about crazy Internet rumors that Jen is his illegitimate daughter. He might have been joking, but with Dick, who knows LOL) Dick claims he never talked behind anyone’s back (that rings as true as Amber’s “I’ve never lied” comments LOL) Dick says he doesn’t think he’d do Amazing Race with Daniele mainly because she wouldn’t want to and wants to with Nick (love how they all think they’re going to be on Amazing Race LOL) but he would with Janelle LOL; Apparently, internet fans have raised $5,000 to send Nick and Daniele on a trip to Europe. Dick says he’s going on “The Motley Cruise,” a rock and roll cruise in January. Our final caller of the show is Nick from Stockton (what a shocker!) and he asks what Dick’s advice to a future BB player would be and he said “Don’t use my strategy! It will not work for anyone else!” Dick says if Daniele weren’t in the house, he would have attempted to align with Eric. Gretchen says she didn’t like things he said but he did give us one hell of a show (and I completely agree with her there!) When Gretchen is ending the show and telling us that Zach “The Silent Assassin” will be on the show’s finale tomorrow, Dick says “The Silent Assassin? That’s like my farts being silent assassins!”
Thursday, September 20th: Zach is the first guest today. He didn’t know if he could trust Eric which is why he didn’t use the veto on him (big mistake!) and he never figured out that Eric was America’s Player ahead of time. Zach’s brother, Thad, calls in (he’s called into HC all season) and thinks that the final HOH and Zach losing by one question was not up to par with all of the other comps that BB had this season (it’s traditional, though, that’s what they do for the final HOH every season.) Zach’s time capsule: Before it runs, Zach says “arrogance!” and well, he was right, he congratulates him on winning the money and his new lifestyle LOL Zach says he would play in another All Stars. Zach says noone stood up to Dick because everyone didn’t want it to effect their ‘game’ (look how well that went!) Zach admits to a caller that he threw competitions at the beginning, but that was his game.
Eric is the second guest (wearing a shirt that says “Local Celebrity” LOL) and he says he found out about being AP “3 days before going into the house while in the hotel waiting to go into the house and play my game.” Eric says that Jessica has been great about the AP reveal. Gretchen says that Eric is good at “pulling stories out of your ass” and Eric says “Thank you!” Jess’ mother, Marie, calls in and thanks Eric for giving Jess the phone call. Eric also admits to throwing comps in the beginning but said “the second half I was playing them, I was just losing them!” Eric says he’s going to have a ‘marathon’ of watching all of the BB episodes LOL Eric’s mother, Karen, calls in (she sounds like a very bubbly person : ) ) and asks for Eric’s proudest moment and he says “Jessica winning HOH the first time.” In Eric’s time capsule, he congratulates himself on being the best BB player in history (LOL). Gretchen asks Eric to give his impressions of each HG in a few words: Amber: embarrassing; Carol: unequipped to play the game; Daniele: fiercely competitive; Dustin: arrogant; Dick: classic; Joe: outrageous; Mike: protein shake; Nick: a huge threat; Zach: great strategist; Kail: a disaster; Jen: a breed of her own (you can hear the crew laughing in the background on this one LOL); Jameka: hilarious; Jessica: the best! Eric says America never had him go after the Donatos and that is why they were still there at the end and for better or worst, they were who America wanted and protected. Eric says he and Jess are just taking things one step at a time and he’s not sure what will happen. Eric says he and Jess would not have campaigned against each other in the final 2 and he would have been as happy for Jess winning as he would have himself. Eric says he and Jess would LOVE to play in the Amazing Race (I would love to see that but I bet we’ll get the Donatos before Jess/Eric in AR : ( ) Eric says getting Nick out in week 4 was ‘the one time I played for myself personally’ and he does not regret using the 36 hours he didn’t have an AP task to campaign against him. Eric says he actually did have game with Jess because Zach liked her too but “only one is left on that playing field!” (oh my!) Eric says Daniele was all talk and Dick was all action.
Gretchen tells us today is the last day for House Calls and she will see us all next year! And with that, I will do the same! See you all next year! Thanks for a great Summer!
