Big Brother 8 Episode 6 - July 17th Re-Cap |
Let me just start off by saying "OMG OMG OMG", this was hands-DOWN the best episode of the season. If this is any indication of how the House Guests are going to interact, Big Brother 8 may fast become my favorite season, yet!
A House divided (several ways)! A Battle Royale between just about everyone in the House! A Cut-Throat Christmas Power of Veto, with the winner announced! And, of course, the evil Red Queen invades Wonderland (you'll see what I mean below). Read on to find out more about this insanely awesome episode (mandatory SPOILER WARNING!!!)
Nomination Ceremony Aftermath
After Jen announces that she is putting Dick & Daniele up on the chopping block because of their "negative vibes", the House Guests walk away shaking their heads. In the Diary Room, Joe exclaims that the only negative energy in the House is coming from Jen herself. Dick laughs and goes on about how he's hated Jen since the beginning, and Daniele thinks it is pretty lame that Jen didn't give the honest reason for nominating her: jealousy. When it is Jen's turn in the Diary Room, she sticks to her guns, and says that she thinks Daniele is scandalous, and Dick is crude.
In the bedroom, Amber gives Daniele a hug and says not to worry, because "karma is a bitch". Daniele isn't too phased, though - she just insists that Jen could have, at the very least, been honest with the reasons for her nominations. Moments later we see Amber bawling in the Diary Room, blubbering about how she loves Dick and Daniele SO MUCH. This girl is beyond emotional.
Nick & Daniele: Strategy? Love? A Little of Both?

In the bedroom, Nick and Daniele whisper sweet nothings (and important game strategies) to each other. A couple of things, here: I find Nick's lines to be really contrived and beyond cheesy. The "key to his heart" thing was too much, and he's relentless with Daniele. I really hope one of them totally turns on the other... it would make for good television, anyways. The other thing: I hate it when the House Guests whisper, because they gather too much saliva in their mouths and sound all spitty when they talk. It grosses me out. There. I said it. I feel better, now.
So, back to Nick and Daniele. After Nick tells Daniele for the 10 millionth time that he really likes her, he goes on to say that he is developing real feelings for her... so much, so, that he feels he is going to cry. In a moment of emotional weakness, he tells Daniele that he is in an alliance with Kail, Zach, and Mike. Daniele tells Nick that she has a secret as well: she is only 20 years old... not 21, as she's led everyone to believe. I don't know about you, but I think Nick's secret will probably help Daniele a lot more than Daniele's secret is going to help Nick in this game!
Later on, Zach becomes suspicious of Nick's time with Daniele and wants to gauge where he is at and where his loyalties lie. A sketchy Nick reassures Zach that everything is cool and runs away. In the Diary Room, Zach proposes that perhaps Nick is "playing both sides of the field". (Any Live Feed viewer and gossiper knows that, judging by Nick's chumminess with the girls AND the boys, he may be doing this in more ways than one!)
America's Player: Snuggle Time
Eric wanders into the Diary Room and is given his next mission: he has to pretend to sleepwalk, and snuggle up to the House Guest of choice. If that House Guest kicks him out of bed, he succeeds. The target voted by the viewers? Good old JOE.
So, in the middle of the night, Eric creeps into bed with Joe and Jessica, and starts rubbing up against his legs. Joe half wakes up, but doesn't kick Eric out. A dejected and frustrated Eric retreats. Sadly, he does not win this round.
Joe asks Eric about this the next morning, and Eric laughs it off and denies it. Joe describes the experience as being similar to a cat rubbing its scent on him. Eric maintains his composure and that's that.
PoV Teams & A House Guest BLOWOUT

Jen calls everyone into the Living Room and the players are chosen for the power of Veto competition. They are:
Jen, Dick, & Daniele (obviously!), and Mike, Amber, and Joe. An enthusiastic Dustin is chosen as the host.
Aaaaaaand, of course, the pressure gets to Amber and she starts sobbing in the Storage Room. As Dustin tries to console her, Jen walks in and threatens Amber - if she throws the competition, or saves Dick / Daniele, then Jen is going to put up someone Amber cares about, like Dustin. This sends Amber into a tailspin and causes her to cry even harder. (I had no idea this was possible.)
Now see if you can keep up with this (I had issues following it all myself!)... after threatening Amber, Jen tries the same tactic on Joe, who retaliates with, "who would you put up that I care about, Jen? I'm not aligned with anyone specifically." This stumps Jen, and she heads to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Jameka and Daniele have gained wind of what has happened and are consoling Amber in the Storage Room. In the kitchen, Zach, Mike, Kail, Jen, and Joe are talking. Joe calls Jen out for her attempts to threaten him... Zach says Amber is overly emotional... Mike agrees... Joe "thanks [Mike] for his input but doesn't recall asking for it"... Jameka walks in, hears what Zach has to say about Amber, and says that she is "sympathetic", not "overly-emotional". Zach retaliates and says "HEY! Jameka is FINALLY talking, now!"... Jameka fights back then walks away. Joe keeps picking at Jen and Mike and Zach...
Jen goes to "apologize" to Amber, and Dick, Joe, and Daniele all descend on her and start freaking out on her for being so evil. Jen laughs and walks away.
PHEW. Intensity.
In the Diary Room, a grinning Jessica says, "Was I ever glad to not be involved in THAT drama!" I am taking back what I said about Jess from Episode 1... I kinda like her, now... she's flying low, too, which I didn't think she'd do at all.
The PoV: Cut-Throat X-mas
The House Guests go into the backyard and are greeted with snow, a Christmas Tree, and a giant curling rink. The game is simple:
- Everyone throws the curling rock.
- Furthest away is eliminated and gets to unwrap a present from under the tree. The next eliminated can either take a previously-eliminated player's present, or unwrap a new one. One of the presents holds the Veto.
- The last one standing gets to pick any present they want.
In a nutshell:
ROUND 1: Joe is out first and gets a Slop Pass.
ROUND 2: Jen is eliminated and unwraps a red unitard that she has to wear at ALL TIMES for one week (more on this later).
ROUND 3: Mike is out, wins a date with any House Guest.
ROUND 4: Dick is out, wins a plasma TV.
ROUND 5: Amber is out (she completely throws the competition, allowing Daniele to win) and has to be handcuffed to another House Guest for 24 hours. She chooses Kail.
As luck would have it, the last present to be opened is the Power of Veto, and it goes to DANIELE!!!
The Red Queen of Wonderland

OK, can we TALK about Jen and the unitard she won? Not only is it a HILARIOUS idea, but Jen actually LOVED it. As Joe put it, it is just another way for her to gather attention. I have been watching her in this thing on the Live Feeds all week. It's a riot. If you aren't signed up already, you really should subscribe. It's too hilarious. Because she is all evil, in red, and in a Wonderland-themed house, I have dubbed Jen the Evil Red Queen. It suits her.
Rallying, Lobbying, a New Nominee
The House Guests scatter and try to sway Jen. Most approach her with Joe, due to his manipulative ways and grating personality, and Jen starts to tire of it a bit. She goes for a walk to clear her head, sees Nick with Daniele, and announces to the House that he is going up. The Mrs. Robinson alliance does everything they can to try and change her mind.
Eric, America's Player, tries again to get Jessica up there, saying that she'd be a "pawn" next to Dick. Jen doesn't even consider the option (I don't even think she has a clue what that means in terms of strategy).
In the end, Daniele takes herself off the block after an emotional speech of what it is like to live in this crazy house and try to play a game against her estranged father, as well as be up against him on the block. She actually thanks Jen for putting her through this, and believes that this test is only making her stronger.
In the end, Jen is swayed by the house and nominates Joe in Daniele's place, citing that the House would be a better place if everyone wasn't being manipulated.
So there you go - there are alliances everywhere, some serious players, some seriously evil House Guests, hilarious twists, showmances, huge fights... this season has EVERYTHING and we are only 6 episodes in. I can't wait for Thursday (I hope Joe goes... make sure you vote for Eric's choice!)
